Tiffany Young (티파니영) has broken out of the solid shell of "Girls' Generation" and re-emerged as an actress.

From Disney+ original series "Uncle Samsik (삼식이 삼촌)" to the musical "Chicago (시카고)," Tiffany Young is showcasing her talents across various fields, establishing herself as a versatile "multi-tainer."

"Uncle Samsik" tells the story of Samsik Park (played by Song Kang-ho), who ensures three meals a day even during the war, and elite youth Kim San (played by Byn Yo-han), who dreams of creating a prosperous country where everyone can eat well and live well. Tiffany Young plays Rachel Jung, a pivotal character aiding Kim San in ushering in a new era for Korea, proving her presence as an actress. In the musical "Chicago," she takes on the role of Roxie Hart, a chorus girl jailed for killing her lover Fred Casely.

On June 26, Tiffany Young met with Sports Hankook at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and candidly shared her thoughts about her role in "Uncle Samsik."

"Why did I join 'Uncle Samsik'? I was searching for a great story and heard rumors about the script. Despite not having the script, I was eager to find a way to participate. If the stage and performance are excellent, I always want to be part of it. Rachel’s first appearance in 'Uncle Samsik' is a scene that will stay with me forever. I invested a lot of time into it. The script was so good, and I discussed it extensively with the director and Byn Yo-han, shooting several versions. In many scenes, the performance depends heavily on your partner, and Byn Yo-han supported me a lot. While Rachel supports Kim San in the drama, it was the opposite in reality. I’m really grateful."

Rachel Jung, portrayed by Tiffany Young, is an independent and proactive character who works alongside her chosen partner Kim San to pioneer a new era. Throughout the series, Rachel and Kim San’s relationship is central, with many scenes showing their collaboration. Tiffany’s passion and energy for acting found a perfect match in Byn Yo-han’s supportive and accommodating nature.

"As a member of Girls' Generation, I was used to singing and dancing, and I have a very planned 'J' personality type. I approach tasks methodically, like ticking off items on a checklist. Byn Yo-han gave me the best advice: 'We might get more or less than we prepared for, but we’ve done the preparation, so everything will be fine.' Ultimately, I think everything turned out well because of our preparation. He was like a mentor to me on set, and I’m so grateful that he could handle my abundant energy. I admire all of Byn Yo-han’s choices in films, dramas, and fashion."

"Uncle Samsik" is a meticulously crafted production, where even Rachel’s outfits reflect her dynamic character. Unlike the male characters in their drab suits, Rachel’s vibrant, retro-style wardrobe signifies her progressive and unrestrained nature. Each outfit subtly changes to mirror her emotions and the plot's progression, adding another layer of intrigue for viewers.

"I wore various colored outfits, starting with white, symbolizing Rachel’s social status and confidence. The day after Rachel and Kim San share their dreams, she wears pink. The drama is filled with such fascinating details, and even in short scenes without dialogue, the costumes convey a message. I approached the role as two different characters in Acts 1 and 2, avoiding eye contact with Kim San in the first act to maintain the narrative integrity of the earlier part. Especially in the final scene, Rachel is married to Kim San. There was a child on set, but the scene wasn’t included because the child cried a lot."

Transitioning from an idol singer to an actress wasn’t an easy decision for Tiffany Young. Known for her hardworking nature during her Girls' Generation days, she continued to show her dedication by being the first to arrive on set and the last to leave.

"Even if I weren’t acting, being able to watch the performances of senior actors like Song Kang-ho is something I’ll cherish forever. I have a good memory and learn by observing. I try to remember the atmosphere and temperature of each day on set, as every moment is a gift. Although I decided to pursue acting in my 20s, I only started in my 30s, allowing me to approach it more seriously."

Debuting at 18 with Girls' Generation, Tiffany Young experienced early success but hasn’t settled, continuously branching into new areas and building a unique career.

"I’ve always been obsessed with building something, and that’s reflected in my albums. As an actress, the projects I work on become my legacy, which resonates with me. Understanding the importance of accumulating work allows me to patiently wait for the process to unfold. As I grow older, I realize that creating something isn’t a solo effort but involves many hands and sweat. As an actor, you become an instrument of expression, throwing yourself into each project. Music and acting have provided me comfort, and I aim to share that with others through my work. Believing that I can empower someone else drives me. Simple is best, right? While my personal style is more about simplicity, I enjoy the vibrant creativity in my work, as it allows me to build my own world. It suits my personality well."
